Tonight, 5 enthusiastic GoodGym members made their way down to some Communal land in the centre of Crewe. The brief was that there were lots of brambles and weeds growing along the fence. As the area is largely occupied by elderly residents and nobody has sole responsibility of the land, it really is down to the residents (or anyone willing) to maintain it. Obviously this is a struggle for the older members of the community.

We met Hazel, local Councillor and regular GoodGymer down at the site (who had arrived on public transport with tools bless her!). The rest of us had either run or cycled.

We soon got stuck in, cutting, raking, digging, pruning, lopping, bagging and generally tidying up the area and getting rid of lots of brambles. Some of the weeds were really high.

Lovely smells drifted across the evening air - we weren’t sure whether it was coming from Mornflake oats or local students cooking up something tasty in the nearby student accommodation. The team jointly agreed that it was probably the latter....

As the nights are quickly drawing in, our evening came to an end a bit earlier than usual but we still managed to collect lots of full bags of garden refuse. Hazel was delighted with the work we had done and she said the residents will be too. It’s always a pleasure to be out in the local community making a difference. Thanks to Hazel for inviting us down and thanks to our fabulous team as always ❤️

Total community legends ❤️
