Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report from Tom: Rock and Roll
A group of about 15 of us made our way down the road to Loughborough Farm with the brief that we would be doing some heavy lifting.
When we arrived we were greeted by a nice pile of granite stones that needed shifting to the bottom of the garden so they could build an oven that the community could use to bake bread. That was described as a warm up which in true Goodygym style we bossed in super quick time.
The next part of our heavy lifting journey was not so quick and involved walking/running/chatting around 300 meters across the road to a building yard where a much larger pile of granite rocks awaited us. So we got down to business and everyone grabbed as much as we could and set back to the farm to unload, unfortunately the pile didn’t look much smaller when it came to round two and eventually it took us three separate journeys and a couple of trolley loads before it was mission complete.
Due to our efficient work we even had time to move one and half large sacs of compost down to the bottom of the garden to fill up there compost sacs so they are now ready to be used in the farm.
We all left feeling very satisfied with our evenings work so much so a wrong turn from myself on the run back meant a much longer run home ensured (sorry again about that one) however everyone was in good spirits at the end and as a pat on the back a large group of us enjoyed a jar or two in the pub afterwards.
Thanks Axel for leading us and good work team. Hopefully see a few faces down the Ceilidh event on Friday (they will be boozing, dancing and goodgyming what is not to like), here is the link
Report from Rebecca: decorating the Bay Tree Centre
A large group of us ran to do some painting at the bay tree youth centre. We met Margarita and she briefed us on which colours she wanted each wall to be painted. She had also provided us with water and doughnuts- delicious!
We donned white suits and shoe covers, which made us feel like we were investigating a crime scene. However, we were initially stumped at how to open the paint tins (but luckily one clever goodgymmer figured it out!)
Armed with masking tape, rollers, ladders and paintbrushes, we set to work. After another brief confusion about which wall needed to be painted green, there was no stopping us! George managed to move a particularly heavy filing cabinet to paint behind, and we were later told that it had never been moved! The room looked so much better when we stepped back to admire our handywork.
Flecked with a mixture of blue, white and green paint a large group ran back to base, whilst six of us mopped the carpet! Running back we chatted and laughed - a job well done (which meant a well deserved pint or two at the pub!)
Report from Katie
Before the GG Lambeth Tuesday run had even started, Judy, Rebecca and Katie were standing on the 9th floor of the Mayor's Office overlooking Tower Bridge in red T-shirts, drinking wine and shamelessly taking selfies in the sun.
Then Judy threw her wine down Katie's trousers, making it look like she had had an accident, right before our rehearsal award acceptance.
During the actual award acceptance, Rebecca threw herself at BoJo and managed a near mouth kiss plus (almost) convinced him to run the London Marathon ('I'm a personal trainer, you know').
Afterwards, we stayed on the stage, some might say beyond our welcome, and enthusiastically spoke to loads of people about how great GoodGym is. Everyone we spoke to was amazed and inspired by what we do, and we were all proud to be there representing GoodGym Lambeth and picking up an award from the Mayor for our services to the Borough.
