Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Hannah
Managed to time this mission well in between baby feeds and it was so nice to be out doing good on a Sunday morning.
Sometimes you meet someone who really leaves an impression on you. Today I met one of those people, what an absolute diamond.
Mrs H can't get around easily anymore, and she used to be a very keen gardener taking lots of pride in her pot plants and flowers, which now stand covered in weeds and leaves.
I was looking forward to this task as I love a bit of gardening and it was a nice warm morning. Mrs H showed me what needed doing including sweeping leaves so that it wasn't slippery, moving a hose, shaking some dirt from the mat and moving a table so I set to work- I definitely feel I had a great workout!
As we chatted away she told me of the tragedy and heartbreak she has suffered in losing her husband and daughter in the past few years. There are little words when someone shares news like this with you and we got quite emotional speaking to eachother, but Mrs H shared some wonderful words and life advice with me which I will never forget. I really hope to go back and see her again soon, and would love to take some plants and do some potting and more tidying in the garden for her to bring the garden back to how it was before she lost her husband.
This wonderful lady has no friends or family nearby, so this is your reminder to check in on your older neighbours. They were young once. She still wants to take pride in her garden, but can't manage it alone. Do you know someone who could use a hand with some odd jobs around the home? A small act of kindness and some kind words can really make someone's day x
