Two fabulous Wandworth Goodgymers gave up their lazy Sunday mornings, eager to run to the rescue of Ms L. Her lovely little basement flat was prone to flooding caused by leaves blocking the drains outside her bay windows.

Equipped with gloves, bin bags and brushes, our first challenge was to navigate our way down to basement level. What initially looked like a steep drop wasn't actually too bad, and with a little bit of self-beleaf, and some parkour-inspired moves, we cracked on.

It took us about 30 minutes to clear the first section, trying (and sometimes failing) to avoid the spiders (eeeeek) and giving the worms we disturbed a new home. We also cleared some extra leaves from ground level just to prevent them falling onto the drains so quickly. That's the great thing about being a Goodgymer - you like to go the extra mile.

Over to the second section, and we had an obstacle to overcome...a resident's car! Luckily another resident in the building happened to come outside and he called on the car owner who kindly moved it so we could access the second section.

After another 30 minutes of picking, brushing and clearing, our job was done!

Ms L's flat should be safe for now, and when the leaves start to build up again, another pair of amazing Goodgymers will be ready to keep them at bay.
