Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Elizabeth
Today's mission was an after-work special to make some space for a new chair and hoist for Miss M. This will enable Miss M to come home from hospital sooner.
Soon after arriving, Eduin and I were warmly welcomed into Miss M's flat by her son. While showing us the task, Miss M's son told us that Miss M had been in hospital for 5 weeks already and, thanks to some misplaced dentures, had had to live off soup for almost a week in that time! I can't even comprehend living that long without cake 😱 In the absence of Miss M (and her teeth), we were resolved to sink our own teeth into this task so that hopefully she can eat something a bit more substantial at home soon :)
As it turned out, we didn't need to sink our teeth into anything harder than marshmallow. From the time we arrived, circumstances conspired to make the task simpler for us.
First off, Miss M's son told us that the movement plan had changed. The orginal plan had been to move a double divan bed and mattress up some internal stairs and to place it outside. In contrast, the new plan was simply to move the bed and mattress to a corridor immediately outside of the room. Easy peasy.
Second, not only was the mattress light enough to be a dream to carry (including some decent handles to grip!), the divan box was already in two pieces. This meant that everything slid (or rolled) easily out of the room. Lemon squeezy.
Third... Ok, this is where I will admit to the slightest of little hiccups. Part three involved the relocation of a chest of drawers from one corner of the room to another. This chest of drawers was immediately adjacent to a large double wardrobe (see photo exhibit A). Unfortunately, as we started to move the chest of drawers, the wardrobe decided to collapse into the vacated space. Luckily, Eduin caught it before it was too far gone and we were able to slot another wardrobe into the space to prop it up. Even luckier, the new movement plan required this to happen anyway, so we can pretty much pretend that the wardrobe never even tried to collapse in the first place! 😄🍀
Finally, we placed a hospital bed against a wall to make some space in the rest of the room. As Miss M's son wanted to sort through some of Miss M's things on the hospital bed and to connect the electrics and air pump himself after we'd left, this meant that our job was done. In total, we were over and out within 30 minutes and so still had plenty of evening (and a tiny bit of sun!) left to enjoy 😎
