LESS RAIN, MORE POTATOES
5 GoodGymers made their way to help their local community.
- Friday, 12th of December 2014
It only rained a little bit his time on the Brixton People’s Kitchen mission with Sylvie, and temperatures soared as high as 4 degrees - basically tropical. Almost none of us got lost, though John spent a weird amount of time admiring David’s bike, until everyone got a bit uncomfortable.
Five GoodGym’ers and four more volunteers, plus Sylvie, meant that we were rolling pretty deep on our visit to New Covent Garden market to collect seasonal fruit and veg for BPK’s Christmas lunches. Sylvie worked a bit more of her magic with the vendors at the market, using her ’trolley of persuasion’ (pictured) until we had more potatoes, apples, kale (always kale) and, weirdly, organic boxed salad that doesn’t go out of date until next week. The store at Myatt’s Field was looking posher than Waitrose by the time we’d finished unloading.
The cooks at the Kitchen will be turning this into festive holiday food, including sandwiches for the really little kids, at a couple of events in the next week. Hoping somebody has got hold of some cranberry sauce…
