Report written by Tara Shanahan
In tonight’s news we congratulated Roy on his new parkrun PB achieved a couple of weeks ago and equalled on Saturday at our parkrun meet up. Well done Roy!
Other news focussed on the upcoming athletics meet of the season, the one you’ve all been waiting for the Goodgym Olympics! I for one am very excited for this and have entered 3 events! Events on offer range from the serious to the ridiculous, with some races being handicapped so anyone could win. Good fun is guaranteed! It’s on the 30th June, more details here, sign up NOW!!
Back to the night’s action and we had a 2km steady uphill run to our task at Craven Vale Estate. Nick from the estate set us to work on clearing 2 beds, one in front of the flats which had been overtaken by sticky weed. Pulling sticky weed proved to be very satisfying work, and with some motivational music (!) from a neighbouring flat, the bed was transformed in no time at all. The other bed in front of the community hall needed a refresh dig over and with 8 people working hard for 30 minutes we saved Nick half a day’s work and left the estate looking much smarter.
We just had time for a quick fitness session involving a descending ladder of 10-8-6-4-2 wide to narrow squat jumps, plank taps & oblique side planks, before we split up with some heading home, some back to base and some staying for the monthly community quiz! Team Goodgym held our own with some solid general knowledge, an excellent film photo round, a slightly less successful Eurovision round, and a slightly embarrasing knowledge of naff 70’s pop bands with siblings! It was nail biting stuff, we were winning, then we were drawing, then back in the lead before we finally had to settle for a tie! No one knew the answer to Nick’s tie break question and he couldn’t think of another so we split the prize fund down the middle!
Next week it’s back to Sloane Court to help Tony keep on top of the lovely big garden, with a guest appearance from Worthing Goodgym Trainer Julia as I’m off to the Peak District for a (running!) holiday. See you in a couple of weeks.
Happy Running!
