Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Kim Longbon
Our beneficiary for this mission was Mrs M who after a spell in hospital and some rather unscrupulous "gardeners", found her front garden to be a little out of control. The main culprit was an enormous fuschia bush that, whilst being beautiful, had become so unruly that it stopped all natural light shining into Mrs M's living room.
The mission team decided to prioritise this and trimming the hedge so that Mrs M would be able to walk up the path unobstructed. Aided by excellent tools from a very lovely neighbour, Savage Steve and Cut-throat Kim began hacking, chopping and sawing off huge chunks of bush. This was a big job but we made light work of it as we climbed into the bush to get to the thick branches and when Kim's ponytail got caught in the bush, Steve smugly pointed out "mo' hair, mo' problems" #NoHairDontCare.
After an hour or so, the bush was tamed! We left some of the height and lots of flowers but opened up the area that would clear the window. We hacked and chopped until Mrs M's house was finally visible from the street and the daylight steamed into the window.
We were left with a pile of fuchsia so large it was hard to see what we were going to do with it all! The next hour was spent breaking it all down and packing it all into garden waste bags that Mrs M's lovely neighbour offered to take to the dump. In all we had six bags of flower, leaves and little branches and pack packed all the large branches into the recycling bin!
This mission will require a second visit to get the rest of the garden cleaned out however a clear impact has already been made! Mrs M will be able to see out of her house to wave at her neighbours and will also be able to read in the living room without the lamp on. Mission (mostly) accomplished!
