Four intrepid GG Yorkies arrived at the unassuming Fulford Social Hall to be pleasantly surprised by it's lovely interior - vaulted ceilings, arches and a large round window. However as we reached the kitchen at the back we looked out into what should be a courtyard to find what can only be described as something of a jungle! There were only a couple of metres of space into the courtyard and the vegetation was completely covering the kitchen window. We got to work, along with Juliet, one of the parish councillors and Andrew, one of her volunteers. Juliet was in the kitchen feeding the chipper and Elle and Penny were prepping the branches to pass to her and separating out the green leaves and flowers. Outside Andrew managed to cut his way along the back wall and sawed several large buddleia branches down to create some space and let the light into the window. I was cutting down some of the smaller branches whilst Lionel was trimming them down and separating out any pieces too thick for the chipper. After an hour's hard work (and a visit from a very inquisitive robin), we had cleared a significant area of the courtyard and allowed the light to come in once more through the window.
