Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
28 people ran like Kenyans, helped finish off a park clear up, delivered flyers for Our Camden, and celebrated the achievement of 100 'good deeds' by 2 top GoodGym peeps!
100 good deeds.....eh - 100! About as many legs as a centipede.....as many years as it takes to get a birthday card off the Queen....as many miles you'll cover if you run from here to Brighton and back (roughly). Coooor Congratulations Sophie and Beth have both reached the milestone of 100 GoodGym good deeds in the last week. Click on the links on their names and give them a Cheer!
We had 2 tasks this week. The first was to help tidy two play areas in Somers Town - they're having a community sports day in the park and had started a bit of a clear up over the weekend - they asked if we could finish off the job. Armed with litter picks, bin bags and purple dog poo spray we split into 4 teams and attacked the task. They'd done a great job actually - but we still found a few dodgy items in the hedgerows that needed to be shifted!
Group 2 headed just south of the Euston Road to Our Camden's offices. We helped paint the offices in January but this time they needed some help publicising their project to residents in their immediate vicinity.
'Our Camden' run a membership scheme - connecting members with with all the great stuff happening in the borough. It's designed to prevent those approaching retirement from drifting into loneliness - connecting them with local businesses and offering them opportunities to keep active and explore the local area. We took a stack of around 1500 leaflets and despite some trouble getting into the flats we still managed to get through the majority. Nice handy work.
We finished the night with a run to Russell Square where we tried something a bit more technical - attempting a Kenyan style progression run! These are great - starting off slow and slowly building the speed and tempo as you go on. Each time I blew my whistle the team kicked into another gear - finishing with a fast 90 second lung-bursting dash!
Despite tired legs there was more to come. We tackled some speed drills (hopping and jumping around in 20 sec bursts) before breaking into teams and racing a relay around the park. It's good to practice faster running at the end of a session - as that's when it will be hardest to maintain good running form. Being able to hold it together when times get tough is an important skill to practice!
See you next week.
