Today Anthony visited 10 homes with 11 food boxes. I have intentionally used boxes instead of bags as the food was packed into donated cardboard boxes today, making it a bit of a bulky carry around.

As he does more deliveries he finds that he is increasingly meeting people who are going through a testing time. Again he was phoning ahead and was talking to an elderly woman whose husband had died. She was unable to walk so could not come to the door, so he was able to take it up. The desperately sad situation she is in, she explained in the call, that she is relying on these food deliveries and on visiting carers. All the while, she is trying to arrange her husband’s funeral while close family live too far away to help practically, even if distance would make a difference right now. This was a couple who were self isolating and could not go out to get food. Now, without him, she is even more isolated. It is humbling to know the harsh reality that some are facing, and sometimes even providing the vital support they need doesn’t seem like enough. This situation is cruel in so many ways, the danger of it is so close to every home, and the reality of our home our inescapable reality as we continue to maintain a social distance.
