Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Elizabeth
Tonight's after-work mission reunited me with Pieter for the latest in bed-moving manoeuvres.
Our job tonight was to remove some furniture from Mr E's house in order that he may be released from hospital. Although Mr E wasn't on-hand, his neighbour had kindly made herself available to let us into his flat.
After introducing ourselves to Mr E's neighbour, we assessed the job at hand. In short, we were to remove a couple of mattresses and a metal bed from Mr E's flat and to move another bed and mattress from his bedroom to his living room. Simple, right? What's the worst that could happen, right? (Says this soft drink lover)
Well, the mattress-removal parts went without a hitch (everything was wonderfully light, and we carried them (as instructed) across the road for later collection by the council). Unfortunately, the bed to be removed was a little more complicated, despite looking deceptively simple. ๐
The bed consisted of two wooden portions, each affixed to opposing ends of a metal frame by respective bolts (and nuts). To remove them, we needed an adjustable wrench (which wasn't immediately to hand), and Pieter's miniature needle-nosed pliars didn't really make any inroads.
After struggling with these simple bed complexities for a while, Pieter went with Mr E's neighbour to retrieve the bare essential tools for the job, before removing most of the bolts himself. I occasionally helped by "loosening" some of the nuts for him before he started on them, but, honestly, I mostly just dangled my newly-acquired square-nosed pliars in front of him and provided lighting whenever needed. At any rate, the sum total of our efforts got the job done and we took the dismantled bed out of the house.
Finishing off by placing the other bed into the living room, we accompanied Mr E's neighbour into her house to make our goodbyes and to write down the number of GoodGym Central for her (she thought we had done an excellent job and wanted to know if we could also help her with her garden ๐) Great working with you again Pieter: Hopefully catch you again on another mission soon! ๐
