Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Last night’s very windy run saw us make a welcome return to the Homerton Grove Adventure Playground where we’ve helped out on several occasions before, building paths, moving materials and generally applying our many hands in order to make light of the heavy work that regularly needs doing there.
Tom kindly joined us from Tower Hamlets this week, first leading us through a quick and ridiculous warm up of hops and skips in London Fields, after which our ten or so runners made their way to Homerton in two groups to be briefed on the work which will in fact be keeping us busy for a few weeks to come. First there was several tonnes of wood chip to be shovelled and barrowed to provide a soft landing for the kiddies at various points around the playground - just ten minutes later however, it had all been distributed through sheer force and sack-dragging. That meant we could move onto task two which was the forking, hoeing digging, raking and de-weeding of the ground under another of the frankly amazing and unique swing sets.
Over the next two or three weeks we’ll be returning to Homerton Grove to help them make some big improvements including raising another GIANT swing and even relocating the taxi to ground level. We need many hands to make this happen so it would be great to see a big turn out next week, especially for Tom who’ll be joining us again, fresh from Hackney Half to share his unique run training expertise with the group.
Back to London Fields we headed for some intensive interval training and even a moderately competitive relay in three mixed ability teams before laying out on our backs in the grass for some stretches.
Oh yeah, and it was REALLY bloody windy!
