7 runners ran 5 km to help the Westbury Banks Nature Reserve.
It was a extra warm warm up for new joiner Oliver as he'd had to turn around and double the distance to get a bike lock for Rtiu. He made it back just in the nick of time though, and we sped off, with Cathy being our tail runner.
When we got to Lordship Rec, we practiced some running drills: toes to knees, to pre-load the flexors; silent running, to reduce impact, and wide arms to increase efficiency.
When we got Westbury, we heard that the tree survey we did last time has helped them get funding for a professional biologist to come out and do a complete survey! Great new. We also found out that our Gus had been involved in some of the earliest discussions about the nature reserve! So he and Luke had plenty to catch up on.
We split into two teams. Bagging up the junk was the less glamorous task, but will really help them get the place cleared out. The other task was to destroy those fecund sycamore saplings we'd counted last time, and tidy up some of the larger fallen branches. Action man Liam wielded all the tools going. Axes, shovels, footballs, you name it, he smashed it!
With the snapping, smashing, bagging, and hacking completed, we headed off into the sunset for a round of Ultimate Unbranded Throwing Disc.
Team BadGym beat out Team GoodGym at the last second before we had to head back to base for those all important stretches.
