Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Today we ran between 3 and 4 km to the Salvation Army to donate clothes and weed and tidy around the building.
Tonight we welcomed Lydia who will be launching GoodGym in Bournemouth very soon and she headed into Croydon as part of her training. The trains did do their best to derail her plans but she battled on and made it to the group on time. Lydia led the run and also the fitness session tonight. So we headed down to Croydon’s Salvation Army which is based in Booth Road and provides many services for the local community. We took some clothes to donate and also planned to weed and tidy up the areas surrounding the main building to make it look prettier for the centre users. We even managed to recruit a new runner, Martin, who volunteers there. Today has been the hottest day of the year so far and we were so grateful to Chris who for providing us with juice, water and fruit before and after the task – very welcome and thanks Chris.
After the task was completed Lydia took us into Wandle Park. for a circuit style fitness session – star jumps, planks, squats, press ups and a few more to make us sweat just a little bit more. Dasha joined us at Wandle Park after her nightmare journey home by train so managed to get her run and the fitness session in. After we got back to base we stretched and wished Lydia good luck on her launch and also on her train journey back home! (are you sensing a theme here?!)
We also had one new members today Karim - so a big welcome to him and hope to see you in your red t-shirt very soon.
For the next two weeks I’ll be sunning myself/wrapping up warmly/wearing rain proofs - probably all on the same day – in Scotland and the runs will be covered by other GoodGym Trainers/Run Leaders. Patrick will be coming next Tuesday and you’ll be heading to Thornton Heath Rec for some more gardening and the following Tuesday you’ll be heading off with Sarah to promote the South Norwood Community Market.
