15 GG Yorkies ran (the long way) to St Oswald's Road to release the overgrown fence from the ivy and plants of DOOM!
We welcomed two new runners to the GG York gang tonight, Darren and EJ - give them a big, hearty GoodGym cheer!
We battled the icy wind to get to the edge of Fulford and I took the group the long way (apparently) to St Oswald's Road, where we met Allan. Allan set us a task to clear a 30-ish metre section of really overgrown fence, thus widening the pavement which had halved in size. He provided a quite excellent and varied selection of tools.
Is that a gardening tool or a medieval weapon?! - Alex, GG York member
There was only one person we could trust with a machete and that man was the very trustworthy Carl. Everyone else had to use something normal.
With thirty minutes on the clock, the group worked hard to hack, lop, rake, spade, rake and sweep the whole place tidy. Bev swept so vigorously that she even swept the head off the broom-handle!
The transformation was quite remarkable, we left St Oswald's Road with a full width pavement and a lovely tidy fence.
To celebrate such a great job, we treated ourselves to a bracing run back along the river to Millennium Bridge, where we boshed out a brilliant fitness session including:
- step reps
- sprints
- mountain climbers
- jumping squats
- more step reps
- skipping
- star jumps
- BURPEES (you all love it!)
- jumping stars
Then we ran back to Blossom Street, high fiving another running group en route and spreading the running love.
