Amy, Jess, Kanika and Sheila joined Claire and Andrew from Wild Eton Wick to help with hay raking at Cooleys Meadow. Cooleys Meadow is a lovely 7 acre open space next to the River Thames, which Wild Eton Wick have been working hard to turn into a haven for diverse flora and fauna. As part of the annual maintenance cycle the wildflowers and grasses have been mown and some hay remains that was not taken up into the baler. Kanika and Sheila raked up the hay, whilst Amy and Jess collected the piles onto groundsheets and transported them across the field. These were deposited onto a nice pile at the edge of the hedgerow, forming the perfect habitat for slow worms and grass snakes to overwinter in. Although we started the task in light rain, the weather improved and we were almost making hay while the sun shone by the end

Thank you Sheila for leading and reporting. Great to see everyone and just sorry I couldn't stay longer! Can't wait to see the wildflowers in this pretty spot next Summer and know that we did our little bit to help them win against the nettles and grasses.
