32 runners sort out Ruskin Community Garden then participate in GoodGym's very first Iron ManWoman!

Oh what a night! We had the lovely Gemma - new trainer for Hounslow - along for the ride as we welcomed folks new and old to a night of doing good, competition and rubber ducks.

Prepped and ready to send our very own George Bright off to Sweden in style to take part in an Iron Man, we gave him an idea of what he will be in for with our very own swim, cycle and run event.

First - we ran 1.5 miles along to Ruskin Community Garden, where we dug over some old beds, spread some more compost on new beds and did some general weeding. Once this very useful task was over, the games began.

In teams of 6, with our new Lambeth task force as the fab team leaders, John Hunter used his excellent demo skills to show everyone how it was done. Then it was on to the event itself.

Gladiators....REEEAAADDDYYYYY. Shouted Alex

George blew the whistle and the swim was off. It was a close tie as our competitors 'swam' across the grass keeping their rubber ducks on their floats. Once past the finish line they ran to their teammates who sped off on wheelbarrow bicycles, being careful of the hazards that lay in their wake. On completing the middle section, they collected a tie from marshal Beth Hoskins and tied their teammates legs together for a three-legged sprint around some big trees. Crossing the yellow ribbon in first place glory was TEAM 4, led by Task Force member Tom Hunter. Party poppers popped and recorders were played before a 1.5 mile run back home again.

Gemma led some excellent stretches and George spoke a bit about his fundraising for The Maytree Respite Centre. You can support this massively excellent cause, and give George a little extra oomph in Sweden here.

We then ate Swedish inspired baked goods by resident chefs Beth and Jay and went to the pub to play Jenga. A delicious end to a wonderful GoodGym. Until next time, sports fans!
