Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Helen Saville
So four GoodGym volunteers went along this week to help out with the Covid vaccinations at the Steam Museum - Gaby, Jason, Gina and Helen. Some of us were Patient Coordinators - I loved guiding people to the next available lane, armed with my “Happy to Help” sign! Others were car park Marshalls, welcoming people outside.
Most Patients were there for their second vaccination and some were clearly excited. We gave them lots of “thumbs up” and smiley-eyes (as mouths were hidden!) to encourage them along. We ran around getting chairs for many of the more infirm Patients and some were also nervous of course. Still, they didn’t have long to wait, as queues were expertly managed by the great team of The Wyvern Partnership.
Good to see a number of the “vaccinators” in Armed Forces uniforms too. I was impressed to see lots of thought had gone into looking after all the volunteers. There was a rest area for them with teas, coffees etc (and milk in the fridge!) and also cakes, sweets and even thank you cards. Lovely and encouraging.
Steam is steeped in history with many old railway signs and memorabilia dotted around the hall. A lovely venue. We’ll be back soon, no doubt, as the vaccinations roll out to more Swindon people. All in all a satisfying day 😊
