Find out about GoodGym TaskForce

Share the love

It was a little wet as 1845 arrived (the time, not the year), but hardly comparable to the great Hill Valley Storm of 1955, so that didn't stop 16 of us turning up for GoodGym Islington's April Theme Night, including newcomers Ali, Ellen, Pippa, Masami and Laura. Welcome all :)

"What do kids do in the 50s?"

They get a black t-shirt! Great achievement, Megan, who completed her 50th good deed tonight. Worth a cheer, I think.

"Time Circuits on"

We started with Time Circuits. Four cones were laid out, each representing a year from the movie: 1885, 1955 (or 1954 according to Steve - happy birthday), 1985 and 2015. We re-enacted scenes from the movie, such as dodging the Libyans, riding horses and skateboarding while hopping between the different years.

"Remember, keep 'em flying!"

We ran off as a group to Elizabeth House, where Chloe had lovingly prepared a pile of flyers for us to distribute locally and also left us a card (see photos). We split up into four groups: Team Tannen, Team McFly, Team Einstein and Team Brown and set off on our separate ways. Thanks to our hover-converted feet it didn't take us long to let the locals know about all the wonderful things going on at the centre. We had a quick rest while getting stuck into Oreos and ToffyPops (GoodGym Islington's new favourite biscuit it seems).

"Hill Valley"

En route to our next destination we happened upon a rather steep hill. What do runners do when confronted with such an incline? The blast up it. Woooh!

"Roads? Where we're going we don't need roads"

All we needed was a 641m loop around Emirates stadium for our time trial. First home tonight was Hassan in a time of 2:43, which was 8.8 MPH!!!!!!! He was closely followed by Pippa in 2:53 and Emma in 2:56. Other times available on request. A great job from all.

"Biff, what the hell is that?"

Yeah, that might give you a five second head start, but then he's gonna chase you. We organised ourselves into pairs. One of each pair was Marty; the other Biff. Marty got a 5-second head start and then Biff had to give chase. Ridiculous speeds from Alex and lots of competitiveness from Steve and Hass who almost did another time trial trying to catch each other. And Simon almost bumped into Kate and then called her Emma (or was it the other way round, we will never know)

"Boy oh boy, mum. You sure can hydrate a pizza"

Tonight's competition was to come up with a pun for the run report. Suggestions were "Door to Delorean" from Steve, Hassan and Alex, "Marty McFlyering" from Sarah and Ali, "Back to the Biscuits" from Ellen and Zainab and "We had a really good time travelling around Emirates" from Laura, Pippa, Masani and Beth.

Although Sarah and Ali won and were presented with the dehydrated pizzas (cooking instructions), it is a bit unfair on Emma, Kate, Megan and Nicky who found that both their puns had already been taken. Come down next week and there will be four dehydrated pizzas waiting for you.

"Make like a tree, and get out of here"

After a jog back and a stretch we were done. Off we went into the night to dream of a better 2015, one with hoverboards, flying cards, 3D sharks, double ties, retractable fruit dishes, bionic implants and no lawyers.

See you last week,
Simon

Doc: Well, that's all in the past.
Marty McFly: You mean the future.

In which era would GoodGym Islingtoners rather live? Only one vote for 1885 from Hass. I think Steve fancied 1955 because pensions were better then. Simon, Alex and Beth were quite keen on 1985, but the majority went for the BTTF version of 2015.

(Thanks to Sarah for saving the day and documenting the history of our evening with photos)

P.S. Carry on B.-ing Goode

Fantastic run report, but Doc, you better back up. We haven't got enough road to reach 8.8mph! See you soon and Simon, keep doing amazing things for GoodGym.
