Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Greenwich runner
Greenwich GoodGym runners found themselves in our favourite local Greenwich Park this morning for the Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice's Mini Marathon, a yearly event for mini people (also known as children) to run a mini version of the London Marathon (2.62 miles).
We were assigned a variety of roles, which meant an early start for some to set up gazebos, signage, and water stands, while others where lucky enough to rock up just before the race started and marshal/steward the 1800 runners in the right directions.
We cheered and high-fived runners as much as they needed to climb the park's hills, managed car traffic together with some great Royal Navy volunteers, and congratulated the little sprinters at the finish line. Best of all, the sun was shining the entire time, which made for a morning well spent.
The news desk also received this special report from our local correspondent, Ben C., at marshall point 13:
Like Batman, I don't like mornings but it was hard not to be enthused by all these little people running. It really is a joy to watch young people running with smiles on their faces and no sense of abandonment. In my old age, it is more about managed decline now.
Stationed at point 13, just over the mile mark, the field was beginning to spread out. I was briefed with keeping the runners running in the right direction. With great power comes great responsibility to borrow an adage from another superhero movie, but thankfully I was up to the task largely owing to a coffee.
All in all, it was a great event and hopefully lots of future GoodGymers!
