Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Laura Williams
The team turned out in full force tonight to head to the Cranbrook Community Centre. Our tasks were originally to put up posters around the estate and clear leaves, but following the turbulent weekend weather, new tasks were added as the night went on, including…tree removal.
So it was a smallish crew who gathered on the hotel steps to warm up and play The New Favourite Game, High-Point-Of-Your-Weekend. Contributions included Hannah’s delish Vietnamese food and Stephen’s games night.
We jogged the short distance to the Cranbrook Community Centre where a couple of our very favourite task owners, Janet and Eileen, had already started the early runners on the tasks for the evening.
First time runner Sam was well stuck-in on our arrival, sweeping piles of leaves and greeting us like a pro.
One by one we were joined by other members, who wasted no time in hanging posters, clearing leaves, chopping up branches, bagging rubbish and lifting trees above head.
Chilly and fun
Chilly, fun, speedy just about covers it. In fact, the most laborious part of the night was the endless pic-taking at the end where the right lighting proved problematic, so the team moved speedily from spot to spot, posing patiently as temperatures proceeded to plummet.
Not to waste a moment of one another’s good company, the posse then made their way to The Approach Tavern, to warm up and fuel up for the journey home.
Way to go, team.
Thanks to the Hotel Squad, for carrying the lights en route to the task!
…And to Stephen for heading up our run once again.
To Sam, our first time runner this evening! Come back soon, Sam!
And last, but by no means least, this evening, a shout-out of shout-outs to our brilliant, much loved Simon, who hit his 50th good deed at a blustery, highly productive Meath Gardens tree-planting task on Saturday.
Simon is the most incredible part of the team, hitting 50 deeds in less than 10 months; joining Task Force at the earliest opportunity, continually boosting morale, injecting dynamism, energy, new ideas and partnerships at every given opportunity. Thanks for all you do for GG TH, Simon, and here’s to the next 50 deeds.
Now moving onto next week, we’re back with the utterly fabulous Friends of Meath Gardens, to commence The Big Storm Clear Up. Details and sign-up are here.
Until then.
This award-winning garden was designed and built from a desolate children’s playground nearly 10 years ago. The garden is maintained by residents of the estate and surrounding area, and aims to bring the whole community together to create social cohesion to this corner of Bethnal Green.
