The ‘Sunday Best’ is a service ran by the JAGS Foundation. The scheme aims to deliver freshly made hot meals to vulnerable people in the local community, as the name suggests, on a Sunday.
The deliveries covered all over South West and some of South East London - from Tulse Hill to Tooting, Streatham to Southwark and Brixton to Battersea. I had signed up to lend a hand (or at least a pair of legs) to get the hot dinners delivered, as the team were in need of volunteers to help prepare and then drop off the meals.
I was given four deliveries, all around Wandsworth, which worked well for me coming from Hammersmith. As I parked up my bike and entered the community centre (hands clean and mask on, naturally) the scent of warm and spicy chicken filled the air. It smelt a-maize-ing, and I collected my four containers in their bags ready to be dropped off and eaten up.
First stop was just across the road in Clapham Junction. After a bit of a mission getting lost trying to find the correct block of flats (google maps didn’t seem to think it exhausted), I found the estate, headed up to the seventh floor, and delivery number one was completed.
I got back on the saddle and zoomed down the road to the Wandsworth Roundabout and across past Southside to deliver my final three meals, all conveniently in the same apartment block.
Just bike that, the job was done and I cycled back across the river to my own house, and my own hot meal made lovingly by my house mates!
