Report written by Lucy Hill
I completed a New Years Eve Double of food deliveries. Having helped out in Ealing earlier that day, I was off more locally to drop some goods off for the Smile Brigade.
I had six addresses to deliver to, and arrived to six addresses worth of hot meals and six addresses worth of grocery essentials! Perhaps I had miscalculated a little, as my rucksack, although roomy was nowhere near big enough to fit all this in!
Luckily, the team were able to offer me a giant black cool bag, a bit like the ones seen on the Deliveroo and Just Eat cyclists. I managed to pack all the food into the two bags, and set off with the big black one balanced and supported on the bike frame with the straps around the handlebars.
I made it down the road to the first delivery in Parsons Green, and although the recipient wasn’t in, I gave him a call and left his goods on the doorstep. Then it was down the next road, to drop off to a lady there, before wheeling on down to another address near the Wandsworth Bridge, and then to Hurlingham and making two deliveries there (and getting locked in to one of the elusive gated squares)!
By now my bags were considerably lighter, and the cycling was a lot easier. I had one delivery left to do, near to Bishops Park. Final hot meal and final bag of groceries dropped off, and the only thing to do was whizz on back to the Smile Brigade HQ to return the very useful (and now empty) giant food delivery bag, and head home to get ready to end the year.
