Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
4 people ran 8k to move a freezer for Anne, and 24 people ran 7.5k and dug over an entire allotment plot
With a group 28 people ready to run and do good filled the Arch with quite buzz. We went through the tasks for the evening, then started a warm up of jogging on the spot with high knees, singing happy birthday to Richard. Such good acoustics in that arch. Totally beautiful.
"4 Heroes"
An elite team of 4 heroes split off for a special mission to Bow. Taking their map and task sheet, Richard (happy birthday), Riccardo, Annabell and Zosia set out together to find and help Anne, by moving a freezer and a few other things off the kitchen floor so work can be done on it soon.
"Community Allotment"
Wishing them luck, the rest of us jogged north, through Broadway Market and London Fields and up to a regular GoodGym haunt - a patch of land off Rectory Road being converted into community allotments. Tools were out fast and the team cracked on and tackled the task of digging over the entire plot, loosening the earth to a depth of 8 inches. We unearthed roots and rocks, rubble and rogue wires, and left behind delightfully aerated soil, soft and ready for spring planting.
"Unleash"
Our challenge for the return journey was to increase pace slowly - start at 6:30min/km, then 6min/km, up to 5:30, to 5 and then unleash for the final 400m to the edge of the park. The running pack remained tight so during the gentle cool down jog we talked about whether to start quicker next time, or increase the pace in bigger leaps.
We returned to the arch and stretched off before welcoming back the heroes from the Bow mission, and hearing the tales of their adventures.
