On Thursday (Thursday?!) four rapid response GoodGymmers answered a callout to help Mrs M move house.

We arrived at Mrs M’s to be greeted by her, her very cute toddler, and plenty of stuff to shift! The flat was three floors up, but thank goodness there was a lift close by. We had a man-with-a-van booked for a one hour slot, but luckily he was running a bit late so we had some spare time to get stuff downstairs and ready. The bulkier items to move included a cooker (surprisingly light), a fridge freezer (not too heavy but massive) and a washing machine (exceedingly heavy). This rare Thursday mission (it’s the new Wednesday!) meant it was four days of GoodGym in a row for superstar Patrick, but he showed little sign of fatigue, and with all four of us weighing in we hauled the heavy items down to the van.

Once all loaded up, we said goodbye and jogged the 2.5km to meet them at the other end. Proving GoodGym has speed as well as muscle, we arrived ahead of the van by a good 10 minutes, so had a little huddle to talk strategy. The new flat was lovely, but unfortunately lacked a lift and was up several narrow flights of stairs. Our man with a van very kindly helped bring the heavy washing machine up with his trolley, but then had to shoot off leaving the rest up to us. Due to some very old food that Mrs M had only discovered in the course of the move, the fridge was best kept hermetically sealed, and even then was emitting some powerful odours. Lugging that fridge freezer up those stairs was our Everest, but just like great mountaineers, it was teamwork that saw us through. With a combination of lifting, pivoting, shimmying and will power, all four GoodGymmers and a fridge freezer successfully reached the summit. We said our goodbyes and good lucks to Mrs M and her little one, congratulated one another on a job well done, and headed off bang on time.
