Report written by Pauline Harrison
It's Saturday, so that must mean a trip to Asda, to pick up an extra tasty cooked chicken, for Mr M.
The forecast had been for rain all day, but we woke to a dry, bright morning. As the shopping list consisted of just one item, I decided to do the 4 mile round trip on foot.
A few delays meant I was a little later setting off than planned, and the dogs had not been walked...so they accompanied me on today's GG task. Two birds...! 👍
Our route took us along some main roads, cycle/pedestrian paths, parks and walkways. As I am usually on my bike, travelling along the roads, I don't see the mess left along the footpaths and other public spaces...I did today.
On my way to deliver Mr M's chicken, the dogs and I passed by a number of a relatively new plant species, which I call the 'litter-bush'. Most commonly found near shopping areas and fast food outlets, the litter-bush houses a vast and growing array of discarded food and drink containers. A rare sight in the last century, it is becoming more and more common of late.
The photographs don't really show the extent of the problem, but give an idea of what we are up against...a future GG task. Further on, we saw what appeared to be the remnants of a take away meal, eaten in a car, and discarded at the side of the road, at a set of traffic lights...he mind boggles.
On a lighter note, Mr M was surprised, and pleased, to meet my companions, and our Jack Russell was keen to make his acquaintance, too...if course, he may have just been after the chicken that I had just handed over.
Mr M and I had a short chat about the postponed Everton game, and the upcoming FA Cup fixtures, before the dogs and I headed home through the Town Hall Park.
A very pleasant way to start the weekend.
