Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Neil Armstead
For today's mission we headed over to help Mr D who needed help with moving from his 1st floor flat to a ground floor flat. A brisk 2.5km run in the changeable and ultimately quite warm weather left us a bit sweaty and ready to get on with moving stuff. Mr D currently lives in a 1st floor flat but has had a number of health issues recently which have left it very difficult for him to get out and about. He was moving to a ground floor flat in the same building which would make it so much easier for him to get around and access the communal facilities. He'd made a good start with boxing and bagging things up so we got cracking on getting it into the new flat. We also had a helping hand from Sandra, a member of the Housing team from the council. We organised everything that needed to go downstairs and piled it up so we could run back and forth and just grab and go. There was a fair bit of furniture and Sarah definitely had fun untangling the phone/modem/TV wires and figuring out where they all had to go back into. Once all the furniture; bags and kitchen bits and bobs were down the last thing to do was move the fridge freezer. Luckily Sandra's other half brought a wheelie truck thing that we could move it on otherwise we might have been a bit stuck. We got it down and after a bit of manoeuvring and shifting positions got it into the kitchen. Mr D came down to take a look at the job we'd done and was very pleased. Not only is he now on the ground floor but it's a bigger flat which feels much more light and spacious. With everything he wanted to keep now moved we said our goodbyes and headed back to town. A brief bit of trail running at the end made sure we were feeling the run and only a few hundred feet more we were done. Another successful GoodGym mission done!
