Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Week in week out we get to do awesomeness. This beautiful Saturday afternoon would be no different as 12 of us took to the streets to plant trees for the Secret Seed Society along Queensbridge Road in Dalston.
A starter session had been organised specifically to tie in with this project as let's be honest how often does anybody (unless you are a tree planter) get to plant there own tree? Not a little seed for a plant or a magic bush an actual tree that will grown and provide us all with more oxygen to breathe and supply food for our local bees.
Starter sessions are a little different as instead of meeting at our base we meet at tasks location, we give an even more in depth introduction on the awesomeness that is GoodGym and we spend an hour or so on the task so our newbies can really get there hands dirty and talk to our regulars to get a feel for our little family.
Today would be no different as we all jogged on the spot to keep warm whilst Amy from the secret seed society told us all about the project and why it's so important to the local community.
A quick health and safety briefing and we were off, our task (Team1) run 200m up the road with an empty wheel barrow, fill barrow with mulch, run full barrow back, empty barrow at location and do it all over again and then again and again and again and smile and then do some burpees then smile again :-) . (Team2) dig more holes for trees, prepare hole for tree, fill hole with mulch and soil, guard tree, dance around tree whilst smiling :-) do burpees then repeat.
We were having so much fun smiling and mulching and burpeeing and barrowing we chose to spend at extra half hour at the task.
After teas and coffees we headed off into the sunshine for a leisurely jog down to London fields a quick stop and Superfit so the newbies could see where they would be joining us on Tuesday, through the back of Hackney, some intervals in London fields and a sprint back to Dalston.
A truly enjoyable afternoon, thank you for joining us, hopefully we will being seeing all of you very soon.
