17 GoodGymers ran 2.5km and helped Antrim Allotments in Camden's Starter Session!

Thank you all for coming, what a lovely morning - first off 10 of us did Hampstead Heath Parkrun; it was slippery, hilly but damn beautiful across the frozen Heath. Rosie came 3rd female, Katherine did her first ever parkrun, PB spoke to 300+ people about GG and we handed out 100 leaflets about GoodGym!

The Starter Session began shortly after at Antrim Allotments, we welcomed newbies Gill, Lisa, Emily and Nina - thank you so much for coming, it was lovely to meet you all and welcome you into the GG family.

We learnt all about GoodGym, in it's 9th year, with over 5000 members across 39 areas nationally we are a force for good in our communities - combating isolation and supporting local projects/charities. Learn more on the About Page here.

In the news this week:

  1. Each and every Wednesday GoodGym Camden meet at the Somers Town and St Pancras Living Centre behind the Crick Institute for 6.45pm and do GOOOD all over Camden. Come along!
  2. Also in May GoodGym are going to Bucharest Running Festival to race, party and have our annual GGxEuro fun - come along!
  3. On Thursday there is the first GG Monthly Drinks of the year in Tottenham at the Beehive - go along it'll be fun! Waiting for a sign up page from Pritesh but he is somewhere in India or something.
  4. Rosie not only came 3rd Woman this morning at HH PR (also ran a course PB) she also hit 50 GOOD DEEDS today - woop woop! Give her a cheer!

Right onto what we actually did at the starter session, after meeting up, having a cool intro we warmed up and headed up through Belsize Park High Street for a run. After 1.3km we stopped and did the following:

  1. Squats x10
  2. Starjumps x10
  3. Balancing - 20 seconds on each side

Gym then Good

We turned around and bounced down hill towards the Allotments, talking about lunch as we went, mmmm food. After some important stretching we met Michael, the Chairman of Antrim Allotments Committee and he put us to work:

  1. Rosie & Emily (Big Holdstock) hacked away at a BIG ROOT with pick axes!
  2. Frances & Gill made a cool metal path for a plot owner
  3. Lisa & Katherine bagged compost, from one big bag to 6 smaller bags (joined by team 2 later)
  4. Everyone else dug, cleared and weeded an old plot that hasn't been well looked after.

After 35 mins of hard work we took a fantastic group picture and headed to the pub - nice!

Thanks for coming, see you on Wednesday - sign up here.

PB out.
