Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
It was pretty baltic in Somers Town this Thursday night but 13 lovely people still made their way to the Community Centre for a GoodGym starter session. It was like a normal GoodGym run only a bit smaller, with a shorter run and quick task at Clean Break in Kentish Town.
Our Task
Clean Break was set up in 1979 by two women prisoners. It is a theatre company bringing the stories of female prisoners to wider audience. They also offer an independent education and training programme working with women affected by criminal justice system. They provide high-quality theatre-based courses, qualifications, training opportunities and specialist support which are critical for the rehabilitation of women offenders in prisons and the community.
We have been dropping over to Clean Break for about a year and they are really grateful for any help we can provide. They're a small operation and often don't have time to do the little jobs to keep the centre and gardens spick and span. Its great we can help them out.
Our task was a quick tidy up of the entrance and garden area- shifting fag butts and generally clearing up any detritius. It felt like a small job for us but it is one less thing for their staff and volunteers to think about.
The run home.
We tidied away the tools and made our way back down sarf to Kings Cross, along with thousands of others, to the Lumiere light show at Granary Square. It was a challenge meandering our way through the myriad of onlookers but we managed to find our way onto the park at the back of the buildings where Paul put us through our paces. With a lack of space we squeezed onto a park bench for a series of plank, squats and lunges before unleashing our kicks with a sprint out along the empty road. On a usual GoodGym run we do a bit of everything; from long runs to short interval training to park based circuit action.
We headed back into the throng slaloming through the crowds back to the Community Centre for a stretch. Nice work all- you'll undoubtedly sail through a regular GoodGym session!
