*Three intrepid Goodgym runners ran more than 20 km to arrive at Sefton Park bright and early; ready, willing and able to wage war on litter. * Chris, Christine and Pauline were soon joined by a group of like-minded individuals, on a mission to keep our green spaces clean. Leading the litter pick was Claire, from the Friends of Sefton Park. After introducing ourselves and explaining the Goodgym philosophy, we were equipped with bin bags, bag holders and litter pickers. The park was really busy with families, groups of friends, dog walkers, runners and cyclists everywhere we looked. The cafe also did a roaring trade as the dry, mild weather encouraged visitors to venture out into the fresh air. For the next 90 minutes we enjoyed the winter sunshine as we walked around the lake, along the paths and around the hedges, filling our bags with everything from the usual cigarette litter, food packaging, bottles and plastic bags to discarded clothing, firework debris and a sharps bin! Returning full bags to our meeting point, we met other community groups who had joined our merry band of volunteers. Exchanging contact details, we made plans to organise some more joint tasks in the near future. Liverpool has many different organisations, working tirelessly, often unnoticed, to help their communities. It is hoped that Goodgym may help to bring some of these wonderful people together to strengthen community relations, make a positive impact on society and continue to do good.
