It’s always great to connect with a new organisation and tonight I hope was the start of a great partnership between Brighton Goodgym and the Brighton & Hove Food Partnership.
Before we set off to our task we bigged up Michael for completing another half marathon at the weekend, this one was in the Lake District and was one of the Big 6 races organised by Goodgym’s very own race team. It sounds like a very well organised and fun way to meet lots of other Goodgymmers whilst visiting a beautiful part of the country and getting in a good run to boot!
We also talked about the Weakest Link which is coming up on June 20th. I strongly urge you to enter this 'race' as its such a good fun, social evening and nobody takes it seriously! Helena is organising and you can let us know you're coming here and read more about it here.
It was just a kilometre to our task tonight, where we were met by Jo who has been the driving force behind getting the newly built community kitchen off the ground. The B & H food partnership are a not for profit organisation who are involved with all things food related, from growing food in community gardens to cooking and eating. The community kitchen will be offering a fantastic menu of cookery courses to the general public, the profits from which will then go to funding work in the community. They are running their first session this Thursday with a group of adults with learning disabilities so our task tonight was making sure all was spick and span for the grand opening. The main focus was on cleaning the copious amounts of large windows and hoovering and steaming the floor. Everybody got to work and the task was complete in about 30 minutes. Jo was delighted with what we achieved and has promised to come up with lots more for us to do at this great project.
She has also kindly offered us a 20% discount on booking any cookery course booked before the end of June. http://bhfood.org.uk/events/ / GOODGYM618
Task complete we continued our run down to Hove Lawns where we played a relay cone collecting game that involved lots of fun exercises. You all worked very hard and everyone agreed that bunny hops are your new favourite exercise, you like them even more than burpees!!
Next week we are heading to Hove museum to help them keep their walls clear of algae. This will be our monthly social evening so I hope you can hang around after and join us for a drink and perhaps a bite to eat. But before that we have our monthly parkrun meet up. As Lydia is run director at Bevendean this Saturday we agreed to head for the hills and the best post parkrun breakfast in town at The Bevy! See you there! (If you don't know where it is just head for The Bevy and follow the signs to parkrun.
Thanks again go to Roy who yet again came up with tonight's great pun!
We’re a non-profit organisation helping people learn to cook, eat a healthy diet, grow their own food and waste less food. We aim to connect and inspire individuals, community groups and organisations. We believe food is more than just fuel, it brings people together and changes lives.
