21 runners ran 7k to sort out some piles of baby clothes and promote an exciting community enterprise
On a positively balmy November evening a group of runners gathered in Somers Town Community Centre. Our mission for the evening was a trip to Castlehaven Community to help new community enterprise Kids Klothes.
Kids Klothes is children's charity shop where all proceeds go towards supporting Castlehaven Community Association’s projects. This helps provide activities, classes and facilities for all members of the local community. They wanted us to give them a hand publicising the project to local residents and to sort out the expanding pile of donations they had been receiving.
The group stayed together on the 2k run up to Castlehaven Centre- dodging impatient cyclists and small yappy dogs on our way. Unfortunately Amy who runs the project was unwell- but when we arrived Youth Group leader Phillippa directed us to a several big sacks of babies clothes and a pile of 800 leaflets.
The fastest delivery service in Camden
We broke into several groups. A group of 8 attacked the sacks, while the remaining 12 broke into 4 teams of 3- each receiving a map and a pile of leaflets to distribute. The runners dashed off- sprinting round the local estate in a race to see who could get back to the centre first. Axel, Barney and Rob were back in no time- having delivered their entire pile in little under 15min's...fortunately we had some spares to keep them busy.
Full Sacks
Despite regular 'coooo' and 'aaahhhhh' breaks we also raced through the pile of clothes. We sorted them into age and gender piles and carefully folded them into 10 bin liners. Margaret, Ellie, Heather and Claire's team just about edged the race filling 5 massive sacks in double quick time. In little over 25mins we had finished both tasks- great work all round.
Extra Run Time!
This gave us more time for a run! We headed to Regents Park and the Outer Circle road where we spilt into two groups. Those who fancied a pushing themselves took a long cut- racing round the Inner Circle of the park before racing to catch the rest of the group on the way back to to Somers Town. The rest of the group stuck together- enjoying a more social run back to the community centre. Great work you lot.
