SESSION ORGANISER
Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by York runner
A huge crew of GG Yorkies ran to London Bridge for a mad and noisy task!
We welcomed along two brand new runners to the family, so let's give a huge cheer to Bec and Jack. What a night they picked..
After battling the best that the remnants of Hurricane Ophelia had to offer - which was mostly leaves in our faces - we arrived at London Bridge. We were met by Peter of York Greenways who had a selection of tasks for us. Unfortunately, the first task was switching on the very noisy generator to give us light, which then meant none of us could hear each other.
The main task was to paint over graffiti under the bridge and if you were going to paint, you had to wear what Paul described as "CSI murder scene suits". People were just loving the tyveks and even some people who weren't painting wanted to wear one.
You wouldn't look out of place at a 90s rave!
It felt a bit like how a GoodGym rave should be. Another task was to use a hammer to reshape some galvanised steel bins which had been vandalised. Nick was having a marvelous time on the bin bashing and is now planning to audition for Stomp.
Of course, with the generator whirring and people banging hammer against steel in a concrete tunnel, it was getting even harder to hear. The next job was to replace nails with screws in some bat boxes which were going to be put up slightly further down the trail. Trying to describe this to Leanne and Helen over the noise proved impossible, so hand gestures for screw, bat and box were made in a peculiar game of GoodGym charades. They gave up on this and went for the litter picking task instead. In fact, Helen snatched the litter picker as fast as she could when she heard that hill reps were an alternative.
So we had bat box screwing, bin bashing, litter picking, painting and rolling all going on to the tune of the generator. Tim, Sean and Lauren took one for the team and boshed out the hill reps.
Everybody else got involved in a hilarious fitness session involving all sorts of partner strength and balance exercises with a bonus squat punch challenge. The partner chest press seemed to blow some minds as people tried to figure out which way their heads should go.
Your left or my left?!
Once all the tasks were complete, the fitness crew carried all the kit back up the hill whilst everyone else had a go at the exercises, then we spent a while getting a selection of group photos, naturally.
The run back included an optional one mile wind-assisted time trial and we finished up our session with a little bit of planking in a teeny tiny space. Phew! It was quite a group run to recover from so lots of us headed to the pub to rehydrate too.
Remember, next week we have two tasks, a 10k and a 3k, so get yourself signed up.
