Report written by Emily
You wake up on a Sunday morning and open the curtains to find that it's the hottest day of the year. The last thing you want to do is go for a run, right? Not for 179 junior parkrunners!
Brad, mini-GoodGymer Fletcher and I donned our hi-vis jackets and foam hands and marshalled for the first time this morning. We were welcomed by Frank and Anthea and were then given our positions by the Run Director, Claire. She went and found the children's jackets so Fletcher and the other volunteer children looked the part! I felt very important because Frank gave me a walkie-talkie, but sadly I didn't get to use it.
Hayley and her daughter Jessica arrived and Hayley took on the role of barcode scanner using the mobile app for the first time. Jessica ran on her own for the first time, so a big well done to her. Fellow GoodGymer Stephen also ran with his son Jack - although I think Jack was a bit too fast for him!
Brad and Fletcher marshalled by the path up to the bandstand while I took position on the last corner before the finish line. It was fantastic to see so many children enjoying a run on what was a very hot morning, and we all got sore hands from the high-fives and lost our voices from the cheering! Fletcher has decided that he'd quite like to have a go at running the next Junior parkrun, so let's hope that Brad can keep up with him (unlike Stephen)!
The core team of volunteers at Norwich Junior parkrun clearly care so much about ensuring that the children have a safe and fun run every Sunday. If you fancy volunteering, make sure you email norwich-juniorshelpers@parkrun.com to be added to the roster. Hayley said that the children are much happier about it all than the adults on Saturdays - she's right!

Your right Emily it’s so lovely to see the children’s excited faces as they round that final bend. It’s great volunteering at Junior Parkrun for a change
