My first session at the covid vaccine clinic started with my first ever covid test which thankfully showed a negative result. I then joined a few other people for a quick induction to show us how everything was set-up and what we’d be doing. We were helping out at the Church and my first job of the day was carefully adding patient numbers to a rough seating sketch and ensuring that they were taken through in the right order. We were also checking that they left their ‘X’s’ behind to show which seats needed cleaning – some of the patients became quite attached to them. It was very busy for the whole of the morning, so we had to stay focussed to make sure we kept the flow going. After a couple of hours I moved to the entrance where we were greeting patients, making sure they safely exited their transportation and into the front entrance for check-in. They were also getting their temperatures checked before taking a seat ready for the next stage. The 3rd rotation took me to the back of the building where we were tasked with taking the patients safely through the carpark to the Surgery so that they could receive their vaccinations. We were very lucky with the weather and although windy it was much warmer than over the weekend. What I enjoyed most was the social interactivity and seeing so many people in person. I had some very interesting conversations and the general atmosphere was very upbeat and hopeful.
