Another Saturday arvo good deed helping to transport the leftover goods from Pret in Clapham to the Bright Morning Star charity in Lambeth. It was my third week on this task, and Ben also braved the grim British weather to join me on the mission this week.

The store closed, and people were being turned away from getting a coffee, but we got ‘bright morning‘ star treatment as the Pret team let us in to the store to collect the surplus food. Ben and I loaded our bag-uettes with the leftover sandwiches and salads, and managed to get everything in between us, before we were bready to cycle off from Clap-ham to Lamb-eth with our ham, lamb and vegan options...

The drop off point had changed, and we rode in tandem down the A3 and past the turning in Stockwell where we had delivered the last few weeks. We did have to stop several times, much to Ben’s dismay, to work out where we were going. It was cold. It was drizzly. And we had no idea where we were. I say this, but eye could see the London Eye, so we clearly weren’t that lost. It’s just that the Hall we were supposed to be dropping off at didn’t seem to exist?

We had been cycling and walking around the same patch for about ten minutes, and despite the best advice from my friends on google maps, we weren’t getting anywhere (plus Ben wanted to get back home - ‘you’re bacon me miss the Arsenal game’ he shivered as we walked past the same building for the fifth time.

Lettuce stop for a moment. We were in fact, standing right outside the hall. However it was rather dark and properly locked up... At least we will know for next week (both Ben and I are signed up for the next version of this task). I gave Lola from the charity a call, and she apologised for no one being around, and within five minutes, one of her fellow Bright Stars came running down the road!

Modesta apologised as well, she hadn’t expected us to be so quick! She unlocked the Hall and we were able to make our delivery deposits into the fridge, to be sorted by the charity a little later on and made available for the homeless people in the Lambeth area.

Mission complete, and Ben was even able to Pret home in time for the second half of the football!
