Report written by Birmingham runner
Fresh from completing our COVID-19 training, David and I made our way to Birmingham Central Foodbank to help out. It was really nice to meet Luca, the manager of the foodbank, and he was very grateful for our help.
Instead of our 'usual' room, we had a much bigger space to work in, as shown in the second photo. We also wore gloves and ensured that we washed our hands and kept a good distance from one another.
David and I made a start by weighing all of the donations, with David showing good strength and stamina to lift all of the donations whilst I made a note of the weights and tallied the totals up. This was David's first time doing this community mission, but you wouldn't have known as he took to it like a duck to water. Whilst we were doing this, Luca and the volunteers from the foodbank started to sort the items into their relevant crates and we were later able to join them with this. Once this done, we set about dating all of the items and managed to finish everything within time - spurred on by the music that Luca was playing.
It was good to see that donations had been continuing given the current situation and we managed to spot some rare pasta and toilet roll, with Luca joking that he would give us a roll each for our help (hence this week's title).
There was enough time to take a couple of photos and then we headed off on our way.
