SESSION ORGANISER
Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Bournemouth runner
Today we were invited to visit an organisation we had not helped before. Bournemouth Foodbank. There are many around the UK and they help families who may have come across some trouble and can't afford any food and so in these cases, through 5 different churches in Bournemouth, they are given a stock of food for 3 days.
We also welcomed 5 new people today who were great! Kirsty and Louise knew Andrew, and Andrew had spoken positively about what we do, thank you Andrew for helping spread the word! The more the merrier! They are both keen runners and we hope they come back soon! Steve picked up a leaflet I had left at the local library and decided to do some research on us and liked what GoodGym does and jumped the first hurdle and decided to come and say hi! Brilliant, we're glad you did Steve! Will like many of us, wanted to do some good in the community and meet new people....and he did! There were lots of us this evening. Ema had previously met Andrea , who also mentioned us....I think we're going to have to start a recommend a friend scheme!! Really glad you all came along and hope you enjoyed it!
Our run there was short and sweet, just under 2.5km...and that's with me taking a little unplanned detour too! Ed, the task organiser was there to meet us on the road and soon explained to us what they do and the tasks he had planned for us.
The team split up into pairs to tackle different tasks. This week was very different to what we usually do....this time we had to think a little more! Caprice, Daryl and Steve were separating plastic bags that had holes in them from ones that were still good to use. Louise and Kirsty had to sort through food labels and check to see which were still ok according to sell by date. Ross and Ema sorted and counted through some Christmas crackers. Andrea and Nicole were weighing boxes and then finished so quickly they also separated bags. Will and Andrew had to weigh boxes with cans and pasta and label them with the weight and contents. Neil risked slicing his fingers off...by using a guillotine to cut the labels. I don't think Ed realised how quick and efficient we were, he said he'd probably plan for greater things for us next time! Can't wait.
The route back took us along the park where we did a bit of speed work...more like resistance work with the strong winds!!!
It was great to visit a new place and to help another good cause, and at the same time meet some new faces and reconnect with those from last week! Also, well done Nicole for becoming a member! We're very lucky to have you on board! YAAY!!!! Maybe next week we all go to the Square and celebrate with a drink after the run???????
AND PLEASE REMIND ME TO ASK YOU GUYS FOR A PUN EACH WEEK!!!!!
See you next week!
No-one in the community should face hunger. They provide 3 days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food, and offer support to local people in crisis who are referred to them by support agencies.
