Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Linda
It was a gorgeously sunny Sunday afternoon in North London, and Jenny and I somehow managed to time our journeys to arrive at exactly the same second. All's well that starts well!
We are greeted at the top of the staircase by a happy Ms M. Inside the flat, there are books and papers piled on every surface possible, lining every wall, nestled in every nook, and crammed into any cranny. Ms M used to be in the book business and she's been sorting through this forest of books (with help!), packing them into boxes to give to a charity called Betterwell books. This charity distributes the books to where they are needed, and internationally to promote literacy around the world.
There were around 6 boxes of books to carry down several flights of steps, to add to the stack started by previous Goodgymmers, Jenny and I made light work of them. Betterwell will pick them up, and give her a new set of boxes to fill. It's going to take her a while to sort and package the next lot, not only due to mobility, but also since some of the books in her flat are now out-of-print vintage editions, and being promised to collections. Once she has another stack of boxes filled, she's mentioned she would appreciate help from Goodgym again in getting them moved.
Mission accomplished and sun still up, we part ways and I have a lovely downhill run back. Thank Jenny for excellent company on my first ever mission! (Check out her big thumbs up)
