After a mini group visit to Newcastle parkrun for some running and volunteering, a splendid six GoodGymers popped along to Nunsmoor Park to help out at their monthly volunteer day.

This regular community mission helps us to lend a hand to a group of amazing volunteers who turn out at Nunsmoor and the Bike Garden to keep the park looking tidy and keeping it safe for the people who use it every day.

Jobs today were all therapeutic ones where we could immediately see the difference we made:

  • Path edging around the top entrance to the park

  • Raking leaves

  • Clearing the walkway through Birdcage walk to remove leaves and make it wider

We did feel quite guilty that we had to move and rehome hundreds of worms in the path edging. Sorry!

It was clear from Emily and Andrew's handy work that they've been taught well by Mike at the regular Urban Green Newcastle missions! It was a great way to spend a Saturday morning finished off with well-earned tea and biscuits!

Regular food and growing activities, rooms for hire and much more

The Bike Garden is a vibrant community space developed on the site of a previous bowling green in Nuns Moor Park, which now serves the community as a place to join in on regular food growing activities, place to hire for private and public events, that may be regular or one-offs, and much more
