Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Pauline Harrison
GoodGym were asked if a couple of runners were free to help Mrs R out in the garden. Mrs R has arthritis so is unable to do much in her garden herself. The task was to give a hand with mowing the grass and removing garden furniture/timber from the lawn to clear it up a bit. This would allow Mrs R to enjoy her outdoor space.
The task was confirmed, and I was the only sign up. This was quite unusual, but not unknown.
When I arrived, Mrs R showed me what was needed and provided me with a mower and strimmer. I was able to move the timber and mow half of the lawn before the blade broke...The next task was to figure out how to change the blade. I had to wait, as Mrs R had a hearing appointment. This gave me an opportunity to clear the front garden and strim the many dandelions that had taken over the area.
Mrs R was desperate to help, and provided me with a much needed bottle of water. We had a chat and I discovered that Mrs R worked at a local primary school - this gave us some common ground, and we talked about education for a while.
Mrs R was very pleased to have a clear space and tidy garden to enjoy once more.
It was a beautiful day, and I was pleased to be out, active and able to help a very deserving, lovely lady.
