This Sunday, waking up early for another task with Newcastle parks was not all that we had to remember...

At 10:00am we all met Mike at the famous (to us GoodGymers anyway) white pick up and welcomed Richard for his first Newcastle Parks Community Mission. We were continuing the work from our last visit, thankfully this time in clear weather, and getting rid of the undergrowth so that the forested areas were clear to see through. This makes the area feel much safer and also allows us to clear away built up litter.

We got straight to it and soon the hard work had us taking off our many layers of gloves we'd put on to battle the cold, with Andrew amazingly taking off his hoodie (it wasn't THAT warm!)

At 11am however, we all stopped and paid our respects with people around the country for Rememberance Sunday. For me this was a special time to look around at what we were doing and have done for our community so far, and reflect on how the chance to be there was thanks to so many people fighting for us in the past and present. A very humbling moment.

After our pause, we set about clearing up out first hour's work and got ourselves the obligatory tea and biscuits. This weeks topic of choice was how many eggs could you really eat in one go and just how many calories do body builders need?

Fed and watered on tea and jaffa cakes, we spent the remainder of the hour tackling a new section of forest and cleaning up brambles there, too. By the end of the morning we were suitably scratched but satisfied with yet another job well done. Mike even had to call time as we were all so much in the zone.

Join us in 3 weeks time for our next missions - Saturday at St Lawrence and Sunday at Harbottle Park.

Or, to get your super GoodGym fix even sooner, come along to out grouprun - a particular favourite where we will be gardening at Newcastle Eagles.
