This is a second time Judith and Gosia met each other in Wandsworth for an early morning mission (because -- is there any better way to start a weekend?). The weather was rather gloomy and rainy but … we couldn’t bother less 😊. Just before the mission, Gosia ran with GG Croydon in Lloyds Parkrun, already arriving with a descent amount of mud decorating her running gear, yet much more of this was just about to come.

The task was to help Mrs S with clearing up her backyard garden. We have noticed that this was not a first ‘tidy up’ as the space was already nicely cleared and a few bin bags were lying nearby already filled with a garden waste. Yet -- some plants, brambles and roots remained in the ground which could be a nuisance when the grand ‘planting time’ comes. Mrs S didn’t know yet what she is going to do with the garden but whatever that would be – it was worth to ensure now as good conditions for new plants as they can possibly be.

We were lucky to get an access to a proper set of tools (incl. spade, fork and rakes) and gloves which made today’s task much easier and more pleasant for both of us. We made a quick start – Judith took the right side and I worked on the left side; eventually we met up and worked together in the middle. The main work we have done was to dig up the ground (ARGH, so muddy!) and grub out roots and other plant parts still sitting in the ground (sometimes very deeply). While progressing with work our trainers were getting dirtier and heavier as they were collecting impressive amounts of mud along the way. There was also one very memorable stubborn root that took us both + our massive efforts to pull up, becoming our indisputable best achievement of this mission (and so satisfying!).

Mrs S was pleased with the outcome and expressed an interest in arranging another mission with GG – there were still few weeds to cut back, and plants to be removed. It would be also worth to remove the bin bags from the backyard - we added 3x but many more of them were already there. We left covered in mud, tired, but happy. On the way back, we discussed the mission but were also already thinking about having a proper shower when we arrive at our homes.
