Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Susan Gillie
Three Sheffield goodgymmers met high on a hill on a chilly Saturday morning, to finish off the good work started by our comrades earlier in the season. We were confronted with a huge pile of garden debris that needed chopping and condensing into bags, and an unruly hedge that needed cutting back. James was allocated to hedge duty as he was the only one who could really reach it, while Kat and Suze cracked on with bagging up. This turned out to be slow and prickly work as it was 90% brambles, with James adding ever more from the hedge, but with help from our host Mrs. D we made steady progress. As a published author and decorated poet, Mrs. D had many interesting stories to share about her life and work, and it was great getting to know her and hearing about the many community groups she is currently involved in. By the end of the morning we had tidied the hedge and cleared the yard, filling over ten bags of waste. We were kindly invited to stay for a delicious lunch of stir fry noodles, prepared by Mrs. D's mother - and all the carbs burnt from the morning's running and gardening were quickly replaced. Seconds, thirds and even fourths were had before we said our farewells.
After lunch we headed back down the hill to St. Mary's craft fair to see Tom2's amazing glasswork and make a start on our Christmas shopping.
