Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Elizabeth
Today I completed a small shop for Ms L during my lunch hour.
After a brief catch up with Ms L, I collected her shopping list, clarified a couple of points ("What type of bacon?") and headed to a local supermarket.
I fairly whizzed through the store, with the only delaying factor being a quick call to Ms L to clarify whether fine beans were an acceptable substitution for runner beans.
Feeling fairly smug, I headed to my old nemesis: the self service checkout. Don't get me wrong, I love a self-service checkout. However, self service checkouts do not love me.
Today's checkout not only decided that I had to enter each orange individually instead of en masse, but that the weight of my oranges were both liars and actresses. Despite only buying 4 oranges, this tripled my time at the machine, and led to the assistant exclaiming "Hallelujah!" when she realised that she was authorising my last orange purchase. I can only suppose that the relative popularity of oranges to other fruits has skyrocketed in the last few months (orange being the new snack), and that Sainsbury's has consequently decided to make them more difficult to purchase.
Regardless, I returned Ms L's shopping, change, and receipt to her before toddling back to work.
