Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Lowri Davies
On a sunny Saturday afternoon, Lowri and Sophie arrived at Mr M's house, ready to tackle the garden. Mr M explained that he'd been caring for a relative and so hadn't had much time to look after the garden himself over the past few years. Lowri and Sophie were of course more than happy to help Mr M get some of his garden back on track.
Mr M provided some secateurs and started to get the strimmer going. Unfortunately after a few attempts, it was clear that the strimmer was no longer in working order, and that maybe it needed a bit of a service before it could be used. This did not matter, as both Goodgymers had plenty to get on with.
First things first, Lowri and Sophie began to collect and clear the litter that had been dumped in Mr M's Garden. They filled a few black bags with litter and rubble and it immediately made a big difference. Next up was removing some of the big weeds that had grown into trees. Sophie took hold of the secateurs and started chopping all the little branches down while Lowri sawed through some of the thicker lower stumps. It was hard work so the Goodgymers took it in turn to cut up the thicker branches. There was no need to visit the Gym - this was a great workout!!
After clearing what they could, the volunteers started clearing up, piling the rubble and grass/weeds in separate piles. They put the tools away and admired their work.
This was just the start of what was quite a big task. A few more sessions are needed to clear Mr M's garden but at least most of the litter had been picked and the area was already looking a bit better.
On to the next visit!
