A spot of painting outdoors at a cricket club in the middle of June...what could possibly go wrong?! Another Tuesday, another rainy day spoiled our plans to visit Electricity Sports Cricket Club to finish off the painting work we started for them recently. A real shame but the GoodGym runners Got Together regardless and still made a difference to our local community.
This week's GoodGym events are being held in association with The Great Get Together #moreincommon which is inspired by the late MP Jo Cox. In her first speech to parliament as an MP she said, "We are far more united and have far more in common than that which divides us." To mark the third anniversary of her tragic passing and what would have been her 45th birthday this weekend we joined in with The Great Get Together, the idea being to bring communities together and celebrate things that unite rather than divide us. We'd love to see pictures of GoodGym runners together over the course of the week, whether it be at parkrun, a race or in actual real life! Send them in to huw@goodgym.org or post them on our Facebook group and I'll share them next week.
Anyway, with rain stopping play at our cricket task we switched at the last minute to help out Sustrans by heading up towards Abbey Park to have a blast with the litter pickers at a notorious littery spot on National Cycle Network Route 6. Despite no time to reccy the site, we arrived to find a plethora of junk left for us to fill our bags in the rain and got stuck in, finding the usual array of weird and wonderful disgarded items!
We took the scenic route back through the underrated beauty of Abbey Park, heading back down the canal, revisiting the Bring The Paint exhibition on the way back for those who were yet to see it.
A lovely Get Together tonight despite the rain and we can all be thankful that we have GoodGym in common. #moreincommon
Next week we head back to an old favourite task at Scope where we plan to celebrate Nicola P's 50th good deed afterwards with a drink at The Black Horse.
