10 tenacious do-gooders ran 2k owned the Irish Causeway task and a healthy serving of circuits

do GoodGym Haringey proud

After heavy rain for most of the day sunshine began to break through the clouds and engulf the streets of Haringey with a much needed dose of vitamin d. Along with the rays of sunshine came a bounding bunch of GoodGymmers ready to spring into action and do GoodGym Haringey proud once more. It gave me great pleasure to introduce more newcomers to our group this week. Shouts out to Matt, Dulce and Marianne. As always: much love and respect to our faithful core crew. What good souls we are blessed with having join us.

from couch to 4k in a matter of weeks

During some friendly conversations between ourselves along with establishing that I would be an Irish dread for the day (padlock), a lovely middle-aged lady who frequents the Sports Centre, we use as our HQ, presented herself in a most energetic fashion; which is often attributed to regular workouts. The lady told us that she had gone from couch to 4k in a matter of weeks and that she would be joining us to do good in the community soon. This set a really good tone, as it is the sort of stuff we thrive on at GoodGym. After a quick briefing and warm up we set off in search of the light and the task at hand.

as much chitter chatter as physically possible between breaths

This week’s run was a short one but it didn’t stop any of us packing in as much chitter chatter as physically possible between breaths. After navigating our way across a busy road safely we were on the halfway home straight, in the distance we could see this week’s light and task owner Tom waiting outside one of the three properties that we would be helping to clean up. He was standing with a young lady who I thought may have been a tenant, but as we got closer I heard her say “Oh yeah I know him” I wondered what I had done now. On arriving, I recognized the young lady to be part of the Smarter Travel Campaign team who had been promoting the benefits of using a bicycle to travel in Haringey. I had donned my GoodGym T and helped them out for a while on their stand a couple of Saturdays ago and she had remembered me, so it was all good. No disrepute here then. Pics

everybody dispersed into the three front gardens, like ducks to water

Tom introduced himself and gave everybody the heads up on what was required of us, then handed over a big bag of tools and disposal bags. In no time at all everybody dispersed into the three front gardens, like ducks to water. Before long residents at the properties began to appear and look on with a joyful inquisitiveness. Although a little camera shy we could see they appreciated what we were doing for them and Tom went on to inform me that they had agreed to maintain their front yards which had unfortunately become a dumping ground for passersby and their rubbish.

As quick as a flash from one of the speed cameras along this busy stretch of road

As quick as a flash from one of the speed cameras along this busy stretch of road, we had managed to remove bag after bag of weeds and rubbish and finished up in a timely fashion. We gathered ourselves as Tom thanked us for our efforts and off we went to a neighboring park not a minute round the corner to get stuck into some circuits. This week we focused on core strength along with some more hip and glutes work. I was pleased to see the group really push themselves during our work out, I witnessed some gritting of the teeth and a few drops of sweat being wiped from the brow. Hats off to everybody – you worked super hard this week as the run was a tad shorter than usual. I just know you’re already feeling the benefits - * big grin *. Check out a quick clip that'll also have you grinning Here

enough do-gooder vibes to carry us until our next good deed

After our ritualistic round of high fives, we set off on our run back to HQ. With a sprint finish we were back in one piece and ready to warm/stretch down. We were done for now but had filled our boots or running shoes with enough do-gooder vibes to carry us until our next good deed.

Until next week do-gooders - stay fit, do good and look out for the light
